Changes to Chapelizod Bypass Speed Limit

From tomorrow, a reduced speed limit will be implemented to sections of the Chapelizod Bypass outbound for a period of ten weeks to facilitate upgrades to the road including a widening of the bus lane..

- The speed limit of Concolbert Rd outbound will be reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h for a short stretch between Memorial Rd junction and the start of the Chapelizod Bypass - a distance of about 20m.

- Chapelizod Bypass itself will be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h from just before the Kylemore slip to Palmerstown.

- Kylemore Road will be reduced from 60 km/h to 40 km/h inbound between Lucan Rd and Rossmore Drive, and outbound on the slip road to the Chapelizod Bypass.

N7 outbound lane changeover goes ahead tonight

There will be a new road layout on the N7 outbound from tonight, all lanes will move into new temporary lanes to facilitate the upgrade works. More details from the NRA:

On Friday the 31st of January commencing at 21:00hr (9:00PM) mainline traffic heading from the M50/Red Cow Interchange toward Naas (Westbound) will be shifted to their left onto three newly constructed temporary lanes maintaining the existing number of lanes that exist today. 

The primary reason for this initial traffic shift is to create the necessary space to shift the traffic coming from Naas(N7) toward the M50/Red Cow Interchange (Eastbound) which is to take place in two to three weeks.
These traffic lane shifts in both the eastbound direction toward (Dublin) and westbound direction toward (Naas) will free up the necessary space to construct the Newlands Cross Flyover. 

Please Note: Traffic delays can be expected until the entire traffic shift both eastbound and westbound is completed over the following two to three weeks.
This anticipated traffic delay is expected due to the extension/widening of the Newlands Cross interchange during this traffic shifting phase over the next two to three weeks. The temporary expanded interchange means drivers will require more time to turn onto and off of Fonthill and Belgard Roads. As a result, longer waiting times at the traffic lights will affect the mainline traffic heading to and from Dublin. 

These temporary diversions are designed to permanent road standards and will include the construction and commissioning of:
Road pavements, Drainage, Public Lighting, Cycleways and Footways (east of junction only), Traffic Signals and ITS equipment

         N7 Newlands Cross Junction Upgrade:

The Newlands Cross Junction Upgrade will replace the existing traffic signal controlled junction at Newlands Cross. The new flyover will carry the N7 traffic up and over the R113 Fonthill / Belgard Roads, thus minimising local traffic impact. 

The Newlands Cross junction upgrade will mean the removal of the last set of traffic lights on the National network between the border and Cork, Waterford and Limerick. The flyover will remove a bottleneck on the national roads system affecting 80,000 car users a day. The scheme will reduce journey times significantly for interurban and local motorists. 

Opening - Spring 2015

Roadworks on R761 (Kilcoole to Greystones Road)

Wicklow County Council wish to advise motorists that roadworks will be in place on the R761, Lott Lane to Knockroe, on Tuesday 11th June from 9.30am to 4.30pm and continuing from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Tuesday 11th June to Thursday 13th June. A stop/go traffic management system will be in operation for the duration of the works, which may cause some minor delays.

Grafton Street Improvement Scheme

Dublin City Council yesterday launched the Grafton Street Improvement Scheme. The €4m project will see the street’s existing red brick surface replaced with high quality natural stone, new public lighting and street furniture. The stone will be granite in the main with a significant portion coming from the Dublin and Wicklow Mountains.

Works will begin in early June and finish in November 2014. They will play a key part in improving Grafton Street as a retail environment and a destination.

The full repaving is expected to take 18 months to complete. This includes an 8-week period during which works will cease in order to facilitate shoppers over the Christmas and New Year sales. The repaving is expected to finish in November 2014. The council will also install new public lighting and street furniture including sculptural pieces.

The following streets will be affected:

The Grafton Street Quarter is centred on Grafton Street and its supporting network of streets and spaces extending to one of the city’s premier squares - St. Stephen’s Green - to the south, Trinity College and another major public space - College Green - to the north, South Great George’s Street to the west and over to Dawson Street and Molesworth Street to the east. It corresponds to the Grafton Street Character Area highlighted in the Dublin City Development Plan 2011-2017 and connects into the city’s main civic thoroughfare linking the important retail, commercial and entertainment districts of Grafton Street, College Green and Temple Bar to O’Connell Street / Parnell Square, the Henry Street Area and the North Georgian City.

This is an estimation of when the different stages of the scheme will take place:

3 Wicklow Street to junction with Duke Street Jan-Apr 2014

5 South Anne / Harry Street to junction with Chatham Street Aug-Nov 2014

A traffic management plan has been agreed and co-ordinated with LUAS Cross City to minimise traffic disruptions.

Bray Diversions

From today Wednesday the 22nd of May, Southbound traffic in Bray will be diverted via Quinsborough Rd., Eglington Rd and Florence Rd back to Main St. for the next 3 to 4 weeks. Delays are to be expected.

Northbound traffic will travel as normal through Main St, with slight alterations to layout through the works area between Florence Rd Junction and Quinsborough Rd/Herbert Rd Junction.

In conjunction with this for a period of at least 1 week, also starting today May 22nd, there will be diversions on Herbert Road, with no through access to Main St. from Herbert Road. 

Traffic will be diverted to Main St via Parnell Rd (or King Edward Rd can be used also as an alternative). Access from Main Street to Herbert Rd will be maintained , although it would be advisable to access the Herbert Road Car Park from the Main Street via Parnell Road.

These works are scheduled to be complete in October 2013 and will bring improvements to the road surface, bus and cycle lanes, new wider pavements, new street furniture and lighting, new signalized crossing points at the Civic Offices. All of which are welcomed, but while the works are ongoing expect delays and allow for extra time on your journey.

M4 closures in December/January

There has been a bit of confusion about the impending M4 works, Kildare County Council seem to have the wrong info on their website. The NRA got in touch with us yesterday to say there'll be rolling closures from December 16th to 22nd between 10pm and 5am. The closures will be sectional so only one part of the road will be closed at a time.

M4 Signage Improvement Programme

The National Roads Authority is currently undertaking a project to improve the overhead signage on the M4 motorway. This work will consist of 20 overhead gantries to be installed at three primary locations; Mullingar, M4/M6 Junction and M4 Kildare (Between Leixlip and Maynooth).

Locations- Closures -Times

Mullingar

• Eight cantilever gantries (spanning the hard shoulder and left hand lane, not the entire motorway) will be erected at Junctions 13, 15, 16, 17 on both the Eastbound and Westbound sections of motorway for a total of eight signs.
• To facilitate the safe construction of the signage the left hand side lane only will be removed from normal operations. There is no motorway closure at these locations.

M4/M6 Junction

• One portal gantry sign and one butterfly sign will be erected in advance of the M4/M6 split. This work will impact the M4 Westbound only.
• To facilitate the safe construction of this signage the M4 motorway westbound at the approach to the M4/M6 split will be closed for one night only on December 16^th. The closure will take place during the off-peak hours and the carriageway will be reopened before the morning peak. (Exact closure hours will be announced closer to the closure date) Traffic will be directed off and back onto the motorway at clearly identified locations.
• This one night only closure is weather dependent therefore the closure is booked for December 16^th, but can occur from December 16th to December 22^nd.

M4 Kildare (Between Leixlip and Maynooth)

• There will be 5 portal gantry signs (spanning the entire carriageway) and 5 cantilever gantry signs (spanning the hard shoulder and left hand lane). These signs will be located at Junction 5, 6 and 7 Eastbound and Westbound.
• To facilitate the safe construction of the signage on the M4 Westbound and M4 Eastbound, alternate closures will be scheduled to ensure one side of the motorway will remain open at all times.
• These closures will occur during the off-peak overnight hours between December 16^th to December 22^nd and are weather dependent, therefore the expected closure details (exact times) will be confirmed closer to commencement of works. Again, these closures will impact one side of the motorway at one time only. Traffic will be directed off and back onto the motorway at clearly identified locations.

New Layout For N3 Inbound At Junction 6

There will be a new layout on the N3 inbound from Tuesday the 13th of July.

Traffic wishing to access the M50 North Bound must be in the centre lane.

Traffic wishing to access the M50 South Bound or Blanchardstown Village must be in the left lane.

Traffic wishing to access the City Centre must use the right hand lane. This lane will lead to a new bridge over the M50 which bypasses the M50/N3 Junction.

Works at Junction 6 are expected to be completed in Autumn of 2010.

Layout change on the N3 at the Auburn roundabout

From 6am on Friday February 19th, there will be a change to the layout at Auburn Avenue on the N3 Navan Rd.
The roundabout will be removed and be replaced by a junction.
All right turns will be reinstated on March 9th.
Extreme care should be taken through the new layout.

Changes to the Blanchardstown on Ramp

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF N3 TO M50 NORTHBOUND ON-RAMP

From next Monday the 13th of July until Friday the 4th of December. The N3 to M50 North on Ramp will be closed as part of the upgrade works.

A temporary off ramp will be in place for the duration but you can expect delays for traffic while it settles into the new road layout.

Closure of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay

Temporary closure of Sir John Rogerson's Quay between Lombard Street East and Cardiff Lane from 28th June - 28th August 2009

The road closure is to facilitate roadwork associated with the Samuel Becket Bridge

During the period of closure, the following diversion routes will apply:

Traffic travelling from City Quay wishing to travel eastbound on Sir Rogerson’s Quay will be diverted via Lombard Street East, Sandwith Street Lower and left onto Pearse Street.

Traffic travelling from Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, East of Cardiff Lane, wishing to travel westbound will be diverted via Cardiff Lane, Pearse Street and Tara street onto the south Quays.

Traffic travelling from Pearse Street, east of Cardiff Lane wishing to travel westbound will be diverted via Pearse Street and Tara Street onto the south Quays.

Local vehicular and full pedestrian access along the closed section of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay will be maintained at all times.

Overnight closure of East Link bridge

The East Link bridge will be closed from midnight tonight until 5am tomorrow morning to facilitate the movement of the Samuel Beckett bridge.

N32 Users Beware

Anyone who uses the N32 knows only too well how bad it can be. Well its gonna get worse. There are major works beginning on the M1 M50 roundabout starting on Monday the 16th of March. The N32 will be closed next week from Clonshaugh Roundabout to the M50, overnight from 10pm until 6am, so avoid the area if you're travelling during those hours. This will have an effect on Oscar Traynor Rd and the Malahide Rd aswell. On March 21, 22, 25, 27 and 30 the N32 will be reduced to one lane and then on April 2, the road may be fully closed for the entire day. Also throughout April and May there will be rolling closures on the M1 so stay tuned to the show for more info. But the good news folks is when this is all done the M1 M50 junction will be free flow. Woop! Woop! Until then we're afraid its going to be a little rough-er.
