Dublin’s
New City Bridge
Shortlist
announced
Dublin
City Council is very grateful for the public’s enthusiastic
response to the advertisement seeking nominations for the naming of
the new bridge over the Liffey at Marlborough Street.
There
were 85 official nominations received along with almost 10,000
supporting submissions, including e-mails, direct correspondence and
petitions.
At
the meeting of Dublin City Council’s Commemorative Naming Committee
yesterday, the 85 nominations were shortlisted to 17. (see list
below) The shortlisted names will be reviewed at the next
meeting of the Committee on 12th June, 2013.
“This
process has assisted in bringing to public attention people and
events that have made a unique and outstanding contribution to the
life and history of Dublin. It has brought into focus a rich
variety of names, many of which will give the City Council
suggestions for the naming of infrastructure into the future”.
Councillor Dermot Lacey, Chairman.
The
City Council welcomes the public’s engagement in the process and is
aiming to have a decision on the naming in autumn 2013.
The
new bridge is scheduled to be completed in late 2013.
